Mando Diao Interview

(Palladium, Köln: 01/03/2008)It’s all Emma’s fault! If you think Emma might be a nasty friend of mine, who somehow managed to let this day become a tiny little mess, no. It’s the name of the storm that blew over Germany in the night from February 29 and had its effects till the evening of March 1. And here we are, holding our brand new voice recorders tightly and heading off to Cologne’s Palladium to meet Mando Diao for an interview. At 5 pm there is already a long queue, filing up almost to the Kebab shops in Köln-Mülheim, the teenage girls and their respective boyfriends freezing in the cold wind. But who hasn’t arrived in Cologne yet? No, who hasn’t even left Munich, due to storm warnings? Yes, you’re right, the men themselves. Everybody’s waiting for Mando Diao only to arrive so that the show doesn’t have to be cancelled.Well, after an endless-seeming odysee through Köln-Mülheim, longing for a café or anything (really, there are only Kebab shops) to sit down and have a coffee while we are desperately waiting for our chance to actually do the interview, we finally get a call to get back to the Palladium immediately. And after another one and a half hours of waiting (the airport in Cologne somehow managed to not find a gangway to let the guys get off the plane) we are very, very lucky to be able to do the interview at last. Our interview partners are drummer Samuel and keyboarder Mats, who’ve luckily found some time for us, while the support is already playing. Thanks, Emma!
